Strengthening UAE-India Business Relations: The Pivotal Role of Dubai and Mumbai

The relationship between India and the UAE continues to evolve into one of the most dynamic global partnerships—anchored by two powerful cities: Dubai and Mumbai.

At the Dubai-India Business Forum held recently in Mumbai, over 200 top business leaders—including 40 delegates from Dubai—came together to strengthen cross-border economic collaboration and explore new opportunities in trade, innovation, and investment.R. Mukundan, Vice President of the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), summed up the sentiment with a striking remark:

An American colleague once told me, ‘If you’re not in Dubai or Mumbai, it’s goodbye.’ That captures the influence and potential these cities hold in shaping global business.

Mukundan emphasized that cultural alignment, mutual trust, and the ability to act quickly and build meaningful relationships are the foundation of the UAE-India success story. He also highlighted the synergy between India’s digital push and Dubai’s innovation leadership, particularly in sectors like fintech and sustainability.

Dubai is what the future looks like—and India is rising with it.

Dubai: A Gateway for Indian Startups

Mohammad Ali Rashid Lootah, President and CEO of Dubai Chambers, revealed that over 300 Indian startups participated in the Expand North Star event—more than any other country.

India is now the third-largest unicorn producer in the world. This proves the strength of its strategy, and Dubai is the perfect launchpad.”

He positioned Dubai not just as a Middle East business hub, but a strategic base for expansion into Africa, Europe, and beyond.

Shared Values, Common Vision

Adeeb Ahamed, Chair of FICCI’s Middle East Council, highlighted the deep business and cultural ties that bind India and the UAE:

Many businesses in both countries are family-run with shared values, making partnership seamless and intuitive.

He added that the UAE is becoming a springboard for Indian companies to attract international investment, while UAE-based firms are actively looking at India’s expanding markets.

We’re just scratching the surface. There’s immense opportunity to involve younger generations, attract more FDI, and make the UAE a knowledge-driven hub.

Innovation as a Connector

Anant Singhania, Past President of the IMC Chamber of Commerce, reflected on Dubai’s bold innovations—like building Ski Dubai in the desert—as a symbol of what’s possible when vision meets execution.

India brings scale and talent. Dubai brings speed and vision. Together, they can shape the future of global business.
